History

The decade of the 1990s saw Palm Beach County’s population grow in record numbers and with it came the need for upscale communities to accommodate the expectations of these new residents, many of whom came from the north looking for a Florida paradise. With this in mind, two long established companies with impeccable credentials, Taylor Woodrow and Kenco, came together to develop what was once a field in Delray Beach into one of the most prestigious residential country club communities in all of South Florida. Today, Addison Reserve offers its Members a lifestyle that features first-class amenities that are enjoyed against a background of 653 meticulously landscaped acres.

Construction began in 1995 on the three nine-hole golf courses, designed by one of the game’s premier architects, Arthur Hills. The layouts were planned to satisfy all handicaps, presenting a challenge while being fair and forgiving, with wide fairways and multiple tees. No matter where you look on the three courses – named Redemption, Salvation, and Trepidation – you will find gentle slopes, subtle contours, sparkling lakes, and lush native vegetation. The towering palms, stately oaks, flowering foliage, and subtropical grasses capture the essence of what everyone loves about Florida. The three courses were renovated and refreshed in 2007, bringing them back to pristine condition, while incorporating a state-of-the-art irrigation system and some modern design elements to enhance playability.

The houses and Clubhouse in the community were designed as homage to visionary architect Addison Mizner who, in the early 1920s, envisioned Palm Beach as the perfect place for the revival of Mediterranean architecture. His signature features included barrel-tiled roofs, airy loggias, turret towers, and the natural integration of indoor-outdoor living. The architects and builders who worked on Addison Reserve superbly evoked the romance of Old Palm Beach as expressed through the genius of Addison Mizner, bringing an elegance that was both practical and appealing.

What drew me to Addison Reserve was the incredibly striking landscaping and environment that greets you when you come through the gate. It is like a park, and there is not another Club like it anywhere.” Murray Cohen, Addison Reserve Member since 2000.

In 1996, as the first homes were being built, construction began on the Clubhouse, the heart of the community. It was created to be the center of club life, offering three dining rooms for both formal and informal dining and a charming lounge upstairs, plus golf locker rooms and a complete Golf Pro Shop downstairs. From the moment you step into the spacious entryway, every detail makes you feel like you have returned to the world of Old Florida charm. Through the years, the Clubhouse has seen social events of every kind, from holiday celebrations and theme parties to private affairs like weddings and anniversary and birthday parties.

I’ve been trying to understand why I am so happy at Addison Reserve. I finally figured it out – Addison Reserve has somehow found a way to make every Member’s club experience very, very personal.” Carol von Gotten, Addison Reserve Member since 2002.

Built only steps away from the main Clubhouse was a wonderful gem called The Esplanade. Renovated in 2007, this Mediterranean-style sports and recreation center is a treat for both body and soul. It is dominated by a finely sculpted tropical pool that is complemented by the Bistro – offering both indoor and outdoor casual dining. Its tennis center includes a fully-stocked pro shop, locker rooms, and access to state of the art tennis practice court, 12 Har-Tru courts, including one with a covered loggia and viewing area. The Esplanade also houses a children’s center to keep young visitors interested and active. Perhaps the most exciting part of the renovation was the addition of an expanded fitness center and a new luxurious spa that allows Members to indulge in soothing treatments, rejuvenating facials, and pampering massages.

The new Esplanade is an oasis of beauty, lifestyle and excitement. Stress and anxiety melt away while relaxing in front of the spa waterfall, or enjoying a massage. There are few restaurants in South Florida as beautiful as the new Bistro. We find the casual, relaxed dining very inviting. The professionalism of the staff is second to none and enhances our enjoyment of all the Esplanade facilities.” Sam Spiegel, Addison Reserve Member since 1998.

In 2002, Taylor Woodrow/Kenco turned the club over, and it became a Member-owned club, under the direction of an elected Board of Governors. They have maintained a watchful eye to ensure that living in Addison Reserve and belonging to the club consistently offer the highest quality and value of any private club in the South Florida area.

In 2009, Addison Reserve was recognized as a Platinum Club of America. Addison Reserve is currently ranked #9 nationally for Residential Country Clubs.

Our Board’s mission is: We are Addison Reserve – Excellence is our Standard. Our goal is to be the best country club in Florida.” Fernando Leal, Chairman, Board of Governors

Over the years, the lucky Members of Addison Reserve have watched their environment grow into a closely-knit community of friends who enjoy each other's company and spend their time benefiting from the wonderful amenities available within their gates. Most have found in Addison Reserve the paradise they sought when they came to South Florida.
